Six Sigma Green Belt Certification

UNH has partnered with the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) to offer a Six Sigma Green Belt Certification. Topics covered include Six Sigma philosophy, DMAIC, Six Sigma projects, variation, histograms, statistical process control, process capability and root cause analysis. UNH First Connecticut College to Pledge Doubling Study Abroad Program

The University of New Haven has become the first college in Connecticut to join Generation Study Abroad, a national initiative by the Institute of International Education (IIE) to double the number of American students who study abroad by the end of the decade. More than 150 colleges around the country – including Cornell, James Madison, College of William and Mary, the Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of Pennsylvania – have made a commitment to the Generation Study Abroad program, launched recently in New York. Hannah & Maggie Album Released by UNH’s Purebred Records

"In The Company of Strangers" was released on Feb. 25 by Purebred, a record label created and managed by UNH students. The album was recorded over the last year primarily in the University's Studio B, with Andrew Kinzie '13 as sound engineer. Hannah & Maggie are a singer/songwriting due from New York City. They have been favorably compared to Simon & Garfunkel and The Indigo Girls, yet have originality and a unique sound. The duo is noted for blending traditional folk music with a modern-day melodic energy, according to the cover of the album. Read more about Purebred Records' release

Influential Women in Sports at UNH

Female sports legends Donna Lopiano, Rosa Gatti, Patricia Meiser and Michelle Williams discussed women's athletics at the University of New Haven as part of an event earlier this month. The discussion, "Similar Journeys and the Same Obstacles," focused on how women have influenced the sporting industry and the impact changes in the field have had on their careers. The discussion was moderated by Elizabeth Davis, dean of the UNH College of Business. Read more about the presentation

Potential Policy Changes for Private Banks

Demissew Ejara, associate professor of finance, will present a talk on Thursday, March 27, about private banking for high-wealth individuals. His talk, sponsored by the Friends of the UNH Library, will begin at 2 p.m. in the upper level of library. Ejara will discuss the impact of private banking on the economy and recommend policy changes. Topics will include confidentiality and limited access to special investment opportunities. Since 2006, Ejara, director of the Bergami Learning Center for Finance and Technology, has been teaching a variety of undergraduate and graduate finance courses at UNH. Craig Douglas '82 MBA
For Craig A. Douglas, vice president and treasurer at the Stanley Works, the right tool for the job was an MBA. Douglas joined Stanley after graduating from college and spent four years in various accounting positions at the venerable, New Britain-based manufacturing company. Eager for a new career direction, he enrolled in the MBA program at UNH as he was moving into the financial side of the Stanley business. Read more about Craig's work with Stanley Works.
