Chris Pincince Named New Head Football Coach

University of New Haven Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Deborah Chin introduced Chris Pincince as the University's new head football coach at a press conference last week. Second Annual Love Your Country Ball

Enjoy an evening of socializing, food, drink and music as the Military Veterans of UNH and Northwestern Mutual present the Second Annual Love Your Country Ball this coming Friday, Feb. 14 at 6 p.m. at Amarante's Sea Cliff in New Haven. The event will also include the awarding of the presidential and veteran challenge coins, awards that recognize faculty, staff and veteran students for their commitment and dedication to veteran success.

Chopped Judge and Famed Chef Scott Conant Hosts Fundraiser for Hungry Children with Hospitality Students

Scott Conant, one of New York’s most beloved and respected chefs, spoke to the University community and signed books at a dinner on Friday, Feb. 7. The dinner was prepared and hosted by students in UNH's hospitality and tourism program. The event raised more than $7,500 for Connecticut No Kid Hungry campaign to benefit End Hunger Connecticut!, whose mission is to eliminate hunger in the state through legislative and administrative advocacy, outreach and public education. Sport Management Student Blogging from Sochi Olympic Games

Anna Vashurina '09 M.S., an account manager for International Management Group (IMG), is working in Sochi, Russia, during the Winter Olympic Games, assisting with the company's accounts with General Electric and IBM. During the Olympics, she will be blogging about her experiences. Prior to her current position, Vashurina worked at Bosco Sport as senior manager of Olympic sponsorship. Bosco Sport has been the official outfitter of Team Russia since 2002. Read her blog on UNH's sports management program's Facebook page.

New Programs Collect Computer, Phone Evidence in Real Time

Forensic evidence from a smart phone or a computer might be critical to solving a crime. But most of the time, it takes months for a hard drive or phone to be analyzed. That's why Ibrahim Baggili, an assistant professor of computer science in the Tagliatela College of Engineering at UNH, has been developing programs that will allow analysis of both computer hard drives and phones in real time or at the scene of a crime. Neville Brothers Star to Visit UNH

Charles Neville of the Neville Brothers, the world-famous first family of music in New Orleans, will be giving a talk and a concert with his quintet on Sunday, February 23 in University Theater at Dodds Hall. The event is part of the University's celebration of Black History Month. The title of the talk is "The Experience of Black Musicians Traveling in the Jim Crow South," and it will begin at 4 p.m. The Charles Neville Quintet will perform a concert beginning at 6 p.m. Members of the ensemble include Jon Fisher (drums), Sarah Hubbard (violin), Ben Kohn (piano) and Jon Suters (bass). Tickets are $10. The event is sponsored by the Department of Music, the Black Student Union and UNH's student chapter of the NAACP. Professor to Discuss Explanations for the Great Violence Decline

Maria Tcherni, assistant professor of criminal justice, will discuss possible explanations of "The Great Violence Decline," a period over the last twenty years that has seen a reduction in violent crime. The talk, which is sponsored by the Friends of the UNH Library, will take place on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. in the upper level of the library. The event is free and open to the public. Chargers Announce 2014 Hall of Fame Inductees

The University of New Haven Department of Athletics is proud to announce its Hall of Fame Class of 2014. The class includes seven individuals, including a former administrator, and five sports are represented. The group will be enshrined at the 31st annual Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on Friday, April 4 at 6 p.m. at Anthony's Ocean View in New Haven. Read the full story.

Kenneth Coleman '88 B.S.
Although he enrolled as an engineering student, envisioning a career building roads and bridges, Coleman switched his major to communication midway through his undergraduate education. After he graduated in 1988, the Chicago White Sox signed him and he embarked on a professional baseball career with the idea of having fun and playing for as long as possible. "It was always in the back of my mind that baseball wouldn’t last forever, though," he says. Read more about Kenneth.
