Scholarship Ball Raises Nearly $500,000

Four Alumni Honored; Dollars Raised to Benefit Students
The UNH Alumni Association's 29th Annual Alumni Scholarship Ball raised nearly $500,000 for scholarships on Saturday, April 21, in the David A. Beckerman Recreation Center on the UNH Main Campus. The Ball, which was attended by more than 400 guests, is UNH's largest annual scholarship fund raising event. "The Scholarship Ball celebrates each year the accomplishments of distinguished alumni and raises critical scholarship funds for deserving students who otherwise would not be able to pursue their dreams of earning a college education," said President Steve Kaplan. Slate of 12 Nominated to Board of Directors
Each year the Alumni Association Board of Directors approves a new slate of members to join the Board. In accordance with the by-laws, this slate must be approved by a voting majority of the Association's membership. View the candidates.

Adult Sports Leagues

Compete as a Team or Free Agent
UNH proudly brings Adult Sports Leagues. This is an opportunity to compete with your friends, meet new people, have fun and play the sports you love. All Adult Sports Leagues, which include dodgeball, basketball, volleyball and soccer, are co-recreational and a minimum of two women and two men are required on the court at a time. Don't have a team but want to play? Sign-up as a free agent. Learn more about the Leagues, which begin May 28.

International Satellite Campus to Open in Tuscany, Italy
UNH will open its first international satellite campus in Tuscany, Italy, in the fall. The campus, located in Prato, the second largest city in Tuscany and only 20 minutes by train from Florence, will provide an exceptional opportunity for UNH students to immerse themselves in the culture and language of a European country. National Expert on Organizational Dynamics Named
Business Dean
Elizabeth B. Davis, chair of the Department of Organizational Sciences and Communication at The George Washington University, has been appointed dean of the University of New Haven's College of Business. Davis is a nationally recognized authority on strategic management, business policy and organizational dynamics. Read more about Davis' appointment.
Collaboration between UNH and Notre Dame High School
The Department of Education and Notre Dame High School of West Haven have partnered to transform their neighborhood connection into a powerful educational collaboration. Undergraduates studying education observed Notre Dame classes and presented a lesson as part of one of their classes. Professors and students also developed a high school literacy project questionnaire to assess the college readiness of the high school's students. Read more about this partnership.

Students Launch Independent Record Label: Purebred Records
Students in the music industry program have launched a new independent record label and it is searching for local artists to promote. The label, Purebred Records, will initially be funded by the UNH College of Arts and Sciences. The idea of establishing a student-run record label was started by Douglas Foley, a junior from Washington, N.J. Read more about Purebred Records.

College of Business News

Full-Tuition Scholarships Awarded in Facebook Competition
Four entrepreneurial high school seniors from New England are the top winners in the College of Business Dean's Scholarship Challenge competition. The four students, who will enter UNH in the fall, are part of a national Facebook competition. Each of them will be awarded full-tuition scholarships for four years. The prize is worth more than $120,000 for each and represents a total commitment by UNH of nearly half a million dollars. Tagliatela College of Engineering News

Engineering Students' Project Designs Target West Haven
UNH engineering majors presented senior project designs during the annual Engineering Expo that focused on West Haven city improvements. One project related to the city pertained to a problematic intersection well-known to both locals and UNH students: the juncture at Routes 1 and 122. Another project involved a pedestrian bridge to cross Route 1 near the University's Main Campus entrance. Read more about these students ideas in a New Haven Register article.

Online Master's Degree in Criminal Justice Coming in Fall
The University will begin offering an online master's degree in criminal justice this fall. The new online program will provide students with the convenience of studying online while providing the quality and in-depth course work of the traditional criminal justice master's degree program for which UNH is known. June 11: 2nd Annual Charger Classic 2012
The Department of Athletics is holding the 22nd Annual Charger Classic golf tournament on Monday, June 11, at Race Brook Country Club. Registration includes a full day of golf, lunch, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, dinner, team prizes and the opportunity to bid on outstanding auction items. Registration fee is $300 per person. Follow the Women's Basketball Team's Italian Journey
Follow your Charger women's basketball team as they tour Italy for 10 days. They will play three games and visit over 10 cities. Allen Love '88, '90 M.P.A.
Holding the Line Against White-Collar Crime
An offensive lineman at UNH in his day, Allen Love '88, '90 M.P.A. knows about protecting the pigskin. He understands that the mission is to keep the bad guys away from the treasure. So it was a natural segue for him to take his economics and public administration degrees and enter the world of white-collar crime fighting. Erik C. Hall '08 M.S.
Lee College Alumni Fellow 2012
Erik C. Hall '08 M.S. is the recipient of the Henry C. Lee College of Criminal Justice and Forensic Sciences' 2012 Alumni Fellowship Award. Hall, a criminalist for the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department Crime Laboratory and adjunct professor at Concordia University in St. Louis, was nominated by Tim Palmbach, professor and chair of the forensic science department.
