Author Jodi Picoult Winter Commencement
Keynote Speaker, will Receive Honorary Doctorate

West Haven Mayor John Picard, Public Relations Guru Robert Dilenschneider also to Receive Honorary Degrees
Jodi Picoult, bestselling author of 18 novels, will be the keynote speaker at the University's Winter Commencement on Saturday, Jan. 14. The University was mentioned in her 2010 novel, House Rules, whose central character dreams of attending UNH and idolizes Dr. Henry C. Lee, referring to him as "the most famous forensic scientist ever." West Haven Mayor John Picard and public relations guru Robert Dilenschneider also will receive honorary doctorates. The January graduating class includes 129 students receiving bachelor's degrees and 321 students receiving master's degrees. Read more about this year's honorary degree recipients.

Professor David Edison Sloane, great-grandson of Thomas Edison, muses on the fate of the traditional incandescent lightbulb, soon to be phased out. "The reports of its death are greatly exaggerated," he notes. Read why Professor Sloane believes incandescent lightbults will move back into the market.

Northeast's First Solar Products Testing Lab
Students and faculty at UNH's Tagliatela College of Engineering are designing the first solar products testing laboratory in the Northeast. The University hopes that the laboratory will not only be self-sustaining but an anchor tenant of a business incubator that UNH President Steven H. Kaplan envisions in West Haven.
