UNH, West Haven and New Haven Affirm Joint Support for Engineering and Science University Magnet School

Announce New Scholarship Program
New Haven, West Haven and University of New Haven officials signed a joint statement that establishes a groundbreaking UNH scholarship program for Engineering and Science University Magnet School (ESUMS) students. The statement also affirms a joint goal to enhance the ongoing partnership between UNH and ESUMS in creating a rigorous science, technology, engineering and math program that prepares and motivates students beginning in the sixth grade to obtain a college degree. The University's Alvine Engineering Professional Effectiveness and Enrichment Program will host a presentation by Dr. Richard Deslauriers, chairman of Doctors Research Group, on February 15. The presentation will focus on challenges facing the healthcare system and will take place in the Schumann Auditorium in the Tagliatela College of Engineering on UNH's Main Campus from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. Get more information.

29th Annual Alumni Scholarship Ball: April 21
The University will host the 29th Annual Alumni Scholarship Ball, a Black and White Gala, on Saturday, April 21, in the David A. Beckerman Recreation Center. $3 Million Gift Supports New Science Building at UNH
A surprise $3 million gift from an anonymous donor will be used to help fund a new state-of-the-art science building at UNH. The gift is the second unexpected major gift UNH has received in a month. The first was a $1 million gift from an anonymous alumni donor to the Tagliatela College of Engineering equipment fund. Read more about the $3 million gift.
Champagne Perfect for Valentine's Day -- and Every Day
On Valentine's Day, millions of Americans will celebrate by popping open a bottle of bubbly. Americans perceive champagne and sparkling wine as drinks only for special occasions when actually, they go well with many different types of foods and can be great served with a casual dinner. New Innovative EMBA Program, Website Launched
The College of Business will begin offering a completely restructured Executive MBA (EMBA) program in spring 2012 in a downtown New Haven location overlooking the Green. The innovative program will be based on six integrative business themes rather than on individual courses. $1 Million Gift Triples Fundraising Goal for UNH Engineering Equipment Fund
An unexpected $1 million gift has tripled the original fundraising goal for an engineering equipment drive at UNH. The million dollar gift, from an anonymous alumnus who has been a longstanding UNH benefactor, pushed the fundraising total of the drive to almost $1.5 million nearly a million dollars over the goal set by the UNH Board of Governors when it issued a challenge to alumni, faculty, staff and friends to raise $500,000, which would be matched by the University. UNH Offers Emergency Management Master's Degree Program
Last fall, UNH became the first school in Connecticut to offer a master's degree program in emergency management. Wayne Sandford, lecturer in Lee College and coordinator of the emergency management program, told the Hartford Courant that "the U.S. Department of Labor rates emergency management as one of the fastest-growing fields in the next five to seven years." Men's Basketball to Celebrate Golden Anniversary on
February 18
On Saturday, February 18, the UNH men's basketball program will be celebrating five decades of tradition at its final home game of the 2012 regular season. The Chargers will be recognizing their 50th anniversary of men's basketball with a halftime salute to the 1961-62 team and a postgame reception. Read more about this event.
Charger Football Presented with
2011 NE-10 Championship Trophy
The UNH football team was presented the 2011 Northeast-10 Conference Championship trophy on Saturday, February 4, at the Chargers basketball doubleheader. The Chargers finished their second-straight NE-10 Championship season with an 11-2 overall record and an 8-0 mark in conference play. Watch the video of the presentation.
Chargers Announce Hall of Fame Class of 2012, Induction Ceremony March 31
The UNH Department of Athletics is pleased to announce the Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2012. The 29th induction class includes Pierre Fils (football), Krys Furman (men's soccer), Shirley Hoyte-Boyce (volleyball), Kevin Kerkes (baseball), Ken Suhl (football), Mark Whipple (football coach) and the 1986-87 women's basketball national championship team. The Class of 2012 will be enshrined on Saturday, March 31, at Anthony's Ocean View in New Haven. Learn more about the honoreers and event, in addition how to purchase tickets.

Marietta S. Lee '08 M.S.
Madison's New Police Commissioner
Marietta S. Lee never thought of herself as the police commissioner type. But when the call came from the Republican Town Committee, Lee, who graduated from UNH in 2008 with a master's degree in engineering managment, immediately felt like it might be a good fit.
