366 New Members to Alumni Community
The more than 45,000 UNH alumni welcomed 144 undergraduate and 222 graduate students to its family during the 87th Commencement held on Saturday, Jan. 16. Honorary degrees were granted to executive director of community affairs at UBS Cecila K. Carter, UNH professor Dennis R. McGough '81 M.A. and Boston Lobster Feast restaurant owner Jeffery P. UNH Works to Build "Veteran Friendly Campus"
This past fall, UNH launched a Veteran Student Services Initiative on campus directed at supporting the University’s active duty military and veteran student population. This initiative is focused on building a “veteran friendly campus,” which will not only attract new students, but also fully support them once they are enrolled. Marty O'Connor Named Schindler Foundation Endowed Professor
Martin O'Connor, J.D., associate professor of fire science, has been selected as UNH’s second Oskar Schindler Humanities Foundation Endowed Professor. Read more about O’Connor’s honor and the Oskar Schindler Humanities Endowed Professorship.
Echlin Dining Hall and Bartels Hall Renovation
Construction is underway for the expansion of the Echlin Dining Hall, part of Bartels Hall, the campus center. Read and watch the two-story addition, which is scheduled to open next fall, take shape. See story below on the new Henry C. Lee Institute of Forensic Science building webcam.

March 15-April 5: Online Auction to Benefit Scholarships
Mark your calendar for March 15, the day online bidding begins on fun and unique items to raise money for scholarships at UNH. There are overnight stays, tickets to comedy clubs, autographed sports memorabilia and more. It's not too late to make a donation. The more items we have, the more money we can raise. Make a donation directly online and you’ll be helping raise money for scholarships in addition to receiving a mention on the auction site that will link back to your own web page.
April 17: 27th Annual Alumni Scholarship Ball
The University’s signature scholarship event of the year, the 27th Annual Alumni Scholarship Ball, will be held on Saturday, April 17. The theme for this year’s Ball is “Give Locally, Impact Globally,” to emphasize the fact when you support UNH students in their quest for a college education, you also help the many people they will assist throughout their lives. We are honored to have Petra Construction Corp. as a lead sponsor. Please consider a corporate sponsorship, which will help support UNH students. Recognized at this year’s gala will be three distinguished alumni: Dr. James V. Cassella ’76 B.A., Lawrence P. Flanagan ’80 B.S. and Janice K. Statewide Competition to Curb Underage Drinking
The Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of Connecticut hosted the kickoff for their 2010 College Public Service Announcement (PSA) Contest at UNH on Feb. 4. Lieutenant Governor Michael Fedele, Jerry Farrell, commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, Lieutenant J. Paul Vance of the Connecticut State Police, UNH President Steven H. Kaplan and members of The Governor's Prevention Partnership took part in the event to help curb underage drinking. UNH communication students took first place in the 2009 PSA contest. Yankees GM Visits Campus
Brian Cashman, senior vice president and general manager of the World Champion New York Yankees, was on campus on Feb. 11 to speak to students. He shared personal stories of his career with the Yankees then met with students for handshakes, autographs and tips on careers in sports management. The lecture was sponsored by the UNH Sports Industry Club, the Undergraduate Student Government Association and the Robert Alvine Professional Enrichment Program in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the UNH Management of Sports Industries Program. Mark your calendar Thursday, April 15, when the celebration continues with a town hall gathering with ESPN’s Chris Berman.

The Spring 2010 Alvine Engineers Professional Effectiveness and Enrichment Program is sponsoring lectures presented by professional engineers in recognition of National Engineers Week, which concludes Feb. 20. Seven to be Inducted into Athletics Hall of Fame
The UNH Department of Athletics has announced the Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2010: women's basketball forward Tiesha Grace, football players Mike Horton and Greg Ortman, softball coach Joe Musante, football and men's lacrosse player John Raba, baseball standout Brian Stone, and three-sport athlete Kate Whalen. The 27th Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held Friday, March 26 at 6:30 p.m. at Race Brook Country Club. Read more about the ceremony and how to purchase tickets.
